Volunteering at the most important protest for LGBTIQ+ rights in Serbia is an opportunity to contribute to:

Volunteers are a vital part of Pride. Through their engagement, they help organise events, provide support to visitors, take part in preparing activities, and help build the sense of community that makes Belgrade Pride unique.

Belgrade Pride announces this year’s Pride Week and Pride Protest March, which will traditionally take place at the beginning of September.

Pride Week will run from Monday, August 31, to Sunday, September 6, while the Pride Protest March is scheduled for Saturday, September 5.

As in previous years, Pride Week will be filled with a variety of programs: from exhibitions and theater performances to lectures and panel discussions, as well as sports activities and parties, aiming to provide content that is accessible and engaging both for the LGBTI+ community and the wider public.

The Pride March, as the protest and activist day of Pride Week and its most important segment, represents an opportunity for LGBTI+ individuals to publicly express dissatisfaction with the absence of laws regulating our lives, and most importantly regarding discrimination and violence, which remain widespread in our society and far too often go unpunished. At the same time, Pride is an act of visibility and courage, an opportunity to exist and protest in public spaces, while also sending a message of solidarity to LGBTI+ people who cannot live freely and authentically, as we also gather on their behalf.

Belgrade Pride invites all LGBTI+ individuals, allies of our community, and fellow citizens to join us for Pride Week, and especially for the Pride Protest on September 5, in a shared fight for equality, dignity, and freedom for all, because only together can we build spaces of resistance and a society where there is room for all of us.

This year’s Pride Protest March will take place on Saturday, September 6, starting at 16:00 in Manjež Park. The march will follow this route:

Manjež Park – Nemanjina – Slavija – Beogradska – Faculty of Law – Bulevar Kralja Aleksandra – Resavska – Kralja Milana – London – Kneza Miloša – Government of the Republic of Serbia – Manjež Park.

At the Faculty of Law, the march will pause for 16 minutes of silence to honor the victims of the canopy collapse at the Novi Sad Railway Station, as well as all victims of the system in Serbia.

Entrances to Pride will open at 16:00 and close at 17:30, after the march begins, and will be located at the following spots:

• London (intersection of Kralja Milana and Dobrinjska)

• Government of the Republic of Serbia (intersection of Kneza Miloša and Nemanjina)

• Intersection of Beogradska and Krunska streets

• Intersection of Bulevar Oslobođenja and Birčaninova (at the bus terminus)

After the march ends, entrances will reopen at 19:00 and close at 21:00, located at:

• Government of the Republic of Serbia (intersection of Kneza Miloša and Nemanjina)

• Slavija Square – entrance to Nemanjina Street

The post-march program in Manjež Park will open with a choir performance, followed by speeches from same-sex parents, professors, students, the Pride Queen, people with disabilities, and survivors of police brutality.

At Belgrade Pride, any slogans or banners that are not in line with the values and policies of Belgrade Pride will not be allowed, nor those that violate the laws of the Republic of Serbia. This includes hate messages based on nationality, religion, or ethnicity; discrimination, insults, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, and calls to violence. Protest and political messages consistent with the values and policies of Belgrade Pride are welcome.

Safety recommendations:

• We urge you not to enter into conflicts with members of the security services, not to respond to any provocations, and to avoid contact with potential counter-demonstrators. If any incidents occur, please immediately approach organizers with red accreditations or call the phone numbers listed in this announcement or on the website.

• Belgrade Pride is a non-violent protest, and we call on everyone to behave in accordance with the principles of non-violence so that everyone at the protest feels safe and secure.

• When leaving the protest march, pack away any items that show you participated (flags, tote bags) into your bags or backpacks, or leave them in the park. Remove or change out of all makeup, glitter, clothing, or other visible elements before leaving the park.

• When leaving, move in larger groups, stick to central and well-lit streets until you reach the nearest taxi or public transport stop.

• Certain streets along the protest route will be closed while the march passes through them. However, Belgrade Pride cannot influence Ministry of Interior decisions to close a wider ring of streets around the event, nor the duration of such closures.

Belgrade Pride opens a call for accreditation for all media representatives who wish to cover this year’s Pride protest march, which will take place on September 6 at 4 PM.

Accreditation for the march is MANDATORY and applies only to this event within Pride Week.

We kindly ask media representatives to apply through the link provided, which contains the application form. All fields must be completed.

After filling out the form, accreditations can be collected during Pride Week at the NGO Hub (Dobračina 4, Belgrade) at the following times:

     - Thursday, September 4, from 10 AM to 2 PM
     - Friday, September 5, from 10 AM to 2 PM
     - Saturday, September 6, from 11 AM to 12 PM

One person may collect multiple accreditations, but each team member must be registered and listed with all required information.

Please note that the accreditation process closes on Saturday at 12 PM, and it will NOT be possible to obtain accreditation at the march itself.

Information about entry points for the media will be announced later. We kindly ask all media representatives to follow the instructions, as entry outside of the designated points will not be allowed.

The Godmother of Belgrade Pride 2025 is journalist Olivera Kovačević, who will lead the Pride protest march on September 6 under the slogan “For Family.”

Olivera Kovačević, through her long-standing commitment and work, has contributed to the struggle for a better position of the LGBTI+ community and the advancement of human rights in Serbia.

“At a moment when our society has collapsed to the extent that students and citizens are forced to demand their basic rights on the streets of Serbian cities, when violence and police brutality replace the law and institutions, when hatred is being served to people through years of propaganda, I would like to emphasize that Pride is a form of struggle for the free and safe assembly of people who want to draw public attention to the violation of their fundamental rights. It is symbolic that the very first Pride in the world, more than half a century ago, began as a fight against police brutality. LGBT people in Serbia understand better than anyone what hatred can do to a person who simply wants to live like everyone else and to have equal legal and human rights, like everyone else. We don’t have to be the same, we don’t have to love each other, but we must enable all people to live freely. That is the measure of a healthy society,” says Kovačević.

This year’s Pride is a protest more than ever before, as Pride stands in solidarity with students and citizens in their fight for a more equal and just society. Filip Vulović from Belgrade Pride points out that the entire society is now confronted with police brutality on the streets of many Serbian cities, while members of the LGBTI+ community have been warning for decades that the police must equally protect all citizens, because a baton raised against one of us represents a threat of force against all.

“While students and citizens endure police brutality, while we have political prisoners and young activists on wanted lists, and while institutions fail to respond to the demands of students and citizens, Pride does not want to participate in the illusion of normality. That is why this year, instead of music, we will make noise during the march,” says Vulović.

The Pride Week program has been adapted to the current socio-political situation but has retained its recognizable format, offering diverse content for the LGBTI+ community. An essential part of this year’s Pride was also the Pride Caravan, which visited several cities across Serbia under the slogan “For Family,” says Matija Stefanović from Belgrade Pride.

“The Pride Caravan showed how endangered the LGBT+ community in Serbia is and how normalized violence has become in our country, especially in smaller towns. In Leskovac, the Pride Caravan was met with hostility and held under great tension, while the police and prosecutor’s office failed to prosecute a single person who endangered our safety or threatened us with violence and murder. In Kruševac, the police outright banned the Pride Caravan, thereby showing great negligence and legitimizing the perpetrators of violence and hooliganism. In this way, the state sent a message that LGBT+ citizens are not safe, that violence is acceptable, and that human rights are not guaranteed,” Stefanović states.

This year’s Pride is held under the slogan “For Family,” emphasizing that family must not be a privilege for some in society but a right for all. For years, Pride has demanded that Serbia fulfill its international obligations, adopt a law on same-sex partnerships, and legally regulate same-sex unions. None of Belgrade Pride’s demands have been met for years, and that is why we are sending a clear message – this year, family is on the streets.

The Pride concert has been an essential part of Belgrade Pride for years. However, this year we cannot turn a blind eye to what is happening in our country. While students and citizens are facing police brutality, while we have political prisoners and young activists on wanted lists, and while institutions fail to respond to the demands of students and the public - Pride refuses to contribute to a facade of normalcy.

That’s why this year, instead of music, we will make noise during the march. The program in Pride Park will be adapted, and the traditional concert will be replaced with speeches by LGBTI+ activists, students, and victims of police brutality. There will also be an address and performance by the Queen of Pride, a choir, and a local queer DJ.

This year, more than ever, Pride is a PROTEST. On September 6, we will take to the streets and make noise - for justice, for institutions, for all rainbow families invisible before the law, for all trans and non-binary people who have endured systemic and societal discrimination for years, and for the students - many of whom are queer - who have been fighting for a better future through nine months of university blockades.

Queer struggle has always been a fight for a more just, more equal, and more solidary society, and Pride has always stood for these values. This year too, our chosen family is out in the streets - for a future that belongs to all of us!

• Adoption of laws on same-sex partnerships and on gender identity and the rights of intersex persons

• Solidarity actions with other marginalized groups

• Trans-specific issues and challenges

• The relationship between feminism and Pride, in the context of trans rights, sex work, and global propaganda against trans and intersex persons

• Response to the current socio-political situation in Serbia

This year’s Pride March is scheduled for Sunday 7th of September, the gathering will start at 16:00 for all participants of the March in Manjež park. The entrance points will be open from that moment. The March itself starts at 17:00, it will be led by a retinue of marching drummers and a truck playing music. The entrance points will be, asides from the members of the police force, also monitored by professional security guards, organizers and volunteers who will make sure everyone has safe access to the March and concerts while also being handed their wristbands.

Access to the gathering may be had through 4 entry points:

1.Prizrenska street, at hotel ”Moskva”
2.The Resavska and Birčaninova street intersection
3.The Resavska and Mišarska street intersection
4.Kralja Milana, at ”Slavija” Square

IMPORTANT: Entrance points will be opening at 16:00 and closing at 17:00.

After the March and the round trip to the Park, at 18:00 two entry points will open up for the concert of which one will be located at the Resavksa and Masarikova street intersection, the other at the Nemanjina and Kralja Milutina intersection. These entry points will be open until 22:00. Please follow our social media pages in case of changes regarding these two entrances.

The route is as follows: Startin from Manjež park down Nemanjina street, Kneza Miloša street, Kralja Milan street, Nikola Pašića Square to the National Assembly, then again down Knez Miloša and Nemanjina street to Menjaž park. Entrance to Pride is open to all visitors, there is no pre-planned list of attendees.

All slogans and banner that run counter to the values and poltics of Belgrade Pride won’t be allowed at the March, it also includes hateful messages on the basis of nationality, religious or ethnic grounds, discrimination, insults, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny or calls to violence.
Political or protest messages, that are in line with the values and principles of Belgrade Pride are however welcome.

Safety recommendations:

- Avoid conflicts with members of the security staff, don’t answer to any provocations and avoid contactwith eventual counter-protestors
- At arrival to the Pride March or Pride concert, all markings that indicate that you were a part of the gathering(flags, tote bags) should be packed in your bag or backpack, or leave them in Pride park. All makeup, glitter, clothes, or other elements should be taken off or changed out of before exiting the park.
- When leaving, move in large groups, use central and well-lit streets to the first taxi or public transport.
-If you notice your safety was in danger, immediately call 192 or talk to the nearest police officer, if you notice them within your vicinity.
- The Planning committee has, while scheduling the Pride March, requested a temporary stop to traffic from the period from 16:00 to 19:00 on the course of the March, while the March is passing through those streets. But, the police, after security checks, may determine to close other streets and extend the time they’ll be closed off for, and we can’t influence that.
